Power Packed Chocolate Smoothie

There’s a certain satisfaction that comes from feeding your kids healthy foods that they actually enjoy!

Here's my version of a chocolatey treat that your kids will slurp right up... except this one is packed with tons of nutrition, making it a great way to start the day.

1. Bananas:

As most people know, bananas are rich in Potassium,  which is an essential mineral for maintaining healthy blood pressure as well as muscle and heart function. They also provide dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain regular bowel movements. Bananas contain vitamins like vitamin C, B6, and folate, as well as minerals like manganese and magnesium. Probably most importantly... bananas are fun to peel and kids can help you with this part!

2. Dates:

Dates are a natural sweetener, making them a healthier alternative to refined sugar. My kids love to eat them in their lunch boxes. They go great with nut butters! They are are nutrient rich. Dates a good source of dietary fiber, B vitamins, and minerals like potassium, magnesium, and iron.  Dates also contain antioxidants, which help repair cell damage and improve immune function.

3. Cacao Powder:

Cacao is one of my favorite things to throw in a smoothie. Not only is cacao is packed with antioxidants, but its particularly high flavonoids, which are metabolites that reduce inflammation and can help prevent chronic disease. Amazingly, cacao has also been shown to be a mood booster. It contains chemical compounds that can promote feelings of happiness and alertness. Some studies suggest that cacao may have heart-protective benefits, such as improving cholesterol levels and reducing blood pressure.

4. Blueberries:

Blueberries are among the highest antioxidant-containing fruits. Regular consumption of blueberries has been associated with improved cognitive function and a reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline.  They provide vitamins C and K, as well as dietary fiber.

So, there you have it—a delicious and nutritious chocolate milkshake alternative that your kids will love! It's not just a treat; it's a health-boosting super snack. Blend up this concoction and raise a glass to National Chocolate Milkshake Day, the healthy way!
