Breakfast: 10 Science backed reasons why you shouldn't skip it!

Breakfast has ALWAYS been my favorite meal of the day. The good news is, breakfast is not just fun and games... its really good for you! Did you know that people who eat breakfast have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight? They also have an easier time with focus, productivity and mood regulation. Here are some fun facts on why its worth making time for breakfast every morning, even admidst the chaos:

1. Improved Cognitive Function: People who eat breakfast tend to have better concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills. This can lead to improved academic and work performance.

2. Weight Management: Contrary to the belief that skipping breakfast helps with weight loss, studies show that individuals who eat breakfast are less likely to overeat throughout the day. A balanced breakfast can kickstart your metabolism and reduce the likelihood of snacking on unhealthy foods later.

3. Enhanced Mood: Breakfast consumption is linked to improved mood and reduced risk of depression. Starting the day with a nutritious meal can positively impact your mental health... so go grab that banana before you head out the door!

4. Better Nutrient Intake: A well-rounded breakfast can provide essential nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It can be an excellent opportunity to include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet.

5. Energy and Productivity: Breakfast provides the necessary energy to tackle daily tasks, whether it's school, work, or physical activities. This can lead to increased productivity and overall well-being.

6. Lower Risk of Chronic Diseases: Some studies suggest that eating breakfast regularly is associated with a reduced risk of chronic health conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

7. Family Bonding: Sharing breakfast with your kids is an opportunity to SLOW DOWN and connect before the day gets going. It's the perfect time to ask questions, put your phone down, and talk to your kids about their schedule for the day. More on this in my blog post on Morning Routines here!

8. Social Interaction: Breakfast can be a social activity. Meeting friends or having a playdate for breakfast can lead to positive social interactions for everyone involved.

9. Establishing Healthy Habits: Teaching children the importance of eating breakfast sets them up for a lifetime of healthy habits. Kids who eat breakfast regularly are more likely to maintain this practice as they grow older.

10. It's delicious!: My all time favorite foods tend to be appropriate breakfast items (fruit, whole grains, plant milks and of course... coffee!). Preparing and savoring a good breakfast can add a sense of pleasure and satisfaction to your day. So don't skip it!

All in all, the good news is that starting your day with a nutritious breakfast can have a positive impact on various aspects of your life, add to your longevity and allow you time in the day to connect as a family. What a win:win! From physical health to mental well-being, and even social connections, making time for breakfast is a simple habit that can lead to more happiness and health for you and your family.
